Back in Time1.BackInTime

With the first two installments of the franchise, Despicable Me has demonstrated that the best way to sell a franchise is to not only make characters that children will demand for Christmas but to make a movie that people have no problem recommending.

Ex Machina1.ExMachina

This movie has shown up on all sorts of “Best of 2015 so far lists.” By reputation alone, this is definitely one that’s tailor made for “My List.”

1.HemlockGroveHemlock Grove: Season 3

Back when we all started getting excited about Netflix original content, Hemlock Grove stuck out like a sore thumb compared to its unmissable siblings, House of Cards and Orange is the New Black. It was heavily advertised but never seemed as unmissable. And now, with its third season, it’s coming to an end.

It Follows1.ItFollows

Like Ex Machina above, It Follows is making a killing in the online listicle circuit, like “Best horror movies of the century so far.” Phrases like “scariest movie of the year” are popping up everywhere. This is all pretty impressive for a movie about a sexually-transmitted curse.

1.KungFuryKung Fury

Is it strange that this movie has been available on YouTube for months and it’s taken being added to Netflix to get me to make a point of watching it? It’s got everything you could ever want: 90’s nostalgia, dinosaurs, and alternate-history Hitler-vengeance. Sounds like a great way to spend 30 minutes.

A bunch of Pingu1.Pingu

He’s everybody’s favourite claymation penguin with a bindle and now there are seven more hour-long collections available for you to stream on Netflix.

It’s become a bit of a trend lately for the Disney shorts preceding the latest Disney efforts to steal the show from their feature film counterparts. Now, you can watch 12 of these shorts, introduced “by the filmmakers who created them.”
